Is it good for your health?
That’s the question many people are asking – take a look in our
reports section to find out who and why. There have been a number of changes
that have been made in the last few years for children and young people who
are looked after and their health – health assessments, special nurses,
doctors and other health professionals. However at Voices From Care we believe
that it is you who are most important when it comes to your health. Why?
1) Only you can know if you’re not feeling right.
2) Only you can take the information about your health onto independence,
where with the right info you can eat good and live good.
3) Neglect of health is a form of self- harm. Looking after your health =
caring about yourself.
4) You meet many people in the care system, but only you can make sure that
the information important to you is with you when you need it.
5) If you’re not interested in your health it’s hard (near impossible)
for other people to help you.
So all you need to do is
take an interest and have a look around this web site for some ideas. It will
also offer you advice and support on any topics covered as well as some useful
links. If you have any specific questions about your health you can email
us, write to us or phone us. We have a very strict confidentiality policy
and if you want to you can send us your question anonymously. Voices From
Care wants to know what you think about health and being in care. Help us
improve health.

When you are looked after in the care system you will meet some situations regarding your health that not many other children and young people have to deal with. You know what we mean- health assessments (used to be called medicals), review meetings, files and stuff.
Here
are Voices From Care’s tips for dealing with these situations.
