So here we go:
Heroin
comes from the poppy in the form of an opiate. The opiates are derived from
the dried milk of the opium poppy, which also contains morphine and codeine.
Morphine and codeine are also very effective painkillers. Along with these
are synthetic opiates that are also used as painkillers like pethidine and
methadone.
These synthetic opiates are sometimes prescribed for heroin and opiate addiction.
Opioid
powders (Opioid is what we call both opiates & synthetic opiates)
Opioid powders can be taken in a number of ways. They can be swallowed, dissolved
in water and injected, and sometimes it can be sniffed, this is sometimes
called chasing the dragon.
By the time the heroin reaches the streets it is likely to have been diluted or cut. This is usually done with glucose but users are always worried about the dangers of it being cut with flour, talcum powder or even caffeine.
When taking small doses of pure opioids there will be other mild effects accompanying the pain relief. These mild effects are brought on by the opioid depressing the activity of your nervous system, including such reflexes as coughing, breathing and heart rate. They can also cause widening of the blood vessels witch can make you have a feeling of warmth, but it also reduces bowel activity and this causes constipation.
Larger doses cause you to have a feeling of euphoria. At higher doses though, sedation takes over and can result in you being made unconscious, going into a comma or even death from respiratory failure. If you drink or take other depressants at the same time you greatly increase the chances of this happening.
So
opioids make you feel drowsy, warm, content, relieve stress and discomfort
by creating a relaxed detachment from pain.
HOWEVER BE WARNED!
Once you are addicted and that doesn’t take long, your physical dependency
will drive you mad. Your tolerance goes down the more you use and you find
yourself needing more and more to get the same affect.
Relief at simply taking the drug to maintain ‘normality’ now replaces
the positive pleasure you used to have.
This
can be one of the reasons for overdoses amongst users.
As someone who has been a long-term user and has built up their tolerance,
they now need larger amounts to get the same high. When they try to get off
the drug and haven’t taken it for a while their tolerance level goes
down. But if they get tempted to go back and have some more, they take the
same amount they used to have before they tried giving up. This will probably
be too much for their system to handle as their tolerance has gone down and
may result in overdose.
