LISTENING
TO MUSIC |
| Music can capture
the soul. It can take you to great heights or make you feel lower than
a snake’s belly (yeh that’s low). Some people find it easier
to express themselves through music, making it sound just like they feel,
blues would probably be the most common example. If you just listen to
the same type of music though its not likely to affect your emotions as
much as a person who has a wide selection. Take this example: John loves to listen to Eminem, Slim Shady rocks……(his opinion only) So when he wakes up in the morning he listens to Slim, and thinks “yeh man bad tune!” Goes to work or out with his mates, things don’t go to plan on this day. He aint best impressed when he loses his wallet, even less impressed when he remembers this wicked bird's telephone number was in there. He uses his best mate's mobile phone for a quick call, it’s a top of the range phone his mate has just bought, mega small and mega expensive. Just as he goes to hang up the call he fumbles and drops the phone. “OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!” His best mate screams as he observes his brand new toy smash to bits “and I didn’t get the insurance package as I thought I’d be careful” he shouts “and you can pay for the phone as well as that call.” John ain't a happy fella. He is well wound up, stressed with the day he’s having and needs to calm down. He can’t go for pint coz his money was in the wallet, and he can’t borrow cash coz he needs to replace his best mate's phone. So he goes home. As soon as he gets through the door he slaps on another Gangsta Rap tune. He ain't really listening to the tune just feelin the beats wash over him, hearing the melody but not really listening to the tune. His thoughts drift back to what a bad day he’s had, all the money he’s lost and the money he needs to find to replace his mates phone. Before long he starts feeling vexed, annoyed he hadn’t taken more care of his wallet and wasn’t so clumsy with the mobile phone. His frustration soon turns to anger and he wants to smash something up, anything, the first thing that can break he's going to smash to bits, he tells himself. Goes out into the kitchen, and with his left arm swipes all his dirty plates, glasses, pots pans, the lot crashing to the floor making a very satisfying smash bang wallop, with loads of tiny pieces destroyed every where. Feeling satisfied he wanders into the living room to see what else he can break, but on his way steps on a sharp object and gashes his foot. Now before all you Slim Shady fans email me hate mail, I like him too,
but in proportion. And too much violente in a tune, while you are vexed, can
only make you more vexed. Now I ain't saying that listening to that type
of music made Paul vexed, or MADE him smash things up, but it might
have had some part to play in all this. Check this; every one has a
bad day now and again, it's normal right? So if things ain't going to
plan, which, I don’t know about the rest of you, but my life don’t
go to plan often, there are a number of ways to calm you down. Music is a way for you to channel energies, good or bad. So how about
this, for a change find some music you wouldn’t normally listen
to. Best your mates don’t hear you playing it coz you might get
the Mickey taken. Try thinking of the many different moods you have,
happy, sad, bored, excited, sulky. Loads of different moods. So why
should we only listen to one type of music when music can change our
mood and we have many different moods without music? Should we try matching
our tunes to how we feel? Or try to change our moods subtly with different
sounds and tunes?
Listen to / What & When Radio in the morning – Wake up and chill to some commercial sounds. DJ’s in the morning are far more awake than the rest of us (That’s coz they work part time hours) So if you can start your day chuckling to yourself you might make it through the day not killin some one. Reggae or Drum & Base – Heavy or mild this is what I listen to most days. Be aware though it can make you feel quite anxious even angry, and the many complex beats of Drum & Base can sometime make your brain race fast. For some people this can make them think faster but for me I end up confused and ready to make slim shady look like Mary Poppins House and Hardcore – Not Really my cup of tea (actually I hate
it and think its ****) Classical / Opera
– Well my whole collection in this ranges from 1 CD I picked up
at a petrol station for £1.00 but don’t jest it’s
the best collection of dead people music I have. All the good tunes
on one CD but it still don’t get used often. Its got the Hamlet
Cigar tune, The Black Horse tune for Lloyd’s TSB and a few other
major artists. |

| Don't listen to the way they say Drum
and Bass is the stuff to listen to cause I'd rather listen to barbie girl. I think people should listen to a nice bit of hard house first thing in the morning because there is nothing better to wake you up in the morning than the sound of pumping tunes coming out the speakers and in to your ear drums. so take my advice and stay away from all that drum and bass and definitely steer clear of all that classical stuff. |
