The medical model as been developed by a powerful
professional group of psychiatrists and they teach that mental health issues
arise from chemical imbalances in the brain that are determined by hereditary
and/or genetic factors.
There is no proof that these ideas are true but they are still presented as fact by the psychiatrists.
Psychiatrists teach that mental illness is a problem within the individual and usually ignore the social causes.
The most common form of treatment is prescribing drugs to correct the imbalance. Another form of treatment is electro shock therapy often used on people who have not responded to drug therapy.
In times past brain surgery (lobotomy) was regularly carried out when all of the above treatments had failed.
Lobotomies are still carried out but far less frequently than before.
There
are only three hospitals in Britain who still perform this procedure. The
Heath hospital in Wales is one of them.
